When an exchange asks for proof of address, start by looking for an official bank statement in your own name showing your current residential address. Then check the platform's document age, issuer and format requirements for your region. Other options can include utility bills, government records or a lease, but acceptance differs.
This guide compares Binance's specified Australian and New Zealand individual requirements, OKX's Australian help list, and Kraken Global's general individual-account requirements. Kraken users must also check residence-specific and account instructions. These are document-preparation rules, not guarantees of regional account or product access. Sources were checked on 6 September 2026, Beijing time. We did not test account verification or collect documents.
Identify what you are being asked to prove
- Proof of identity (POI) establishes who you are, using accepted identification.
- Proof of address (POA) connects you with your current residence.
- Source of funds (SoF) explains how a particular sum was obtained.
One bank document may contain several kinds of information. A balance screen or payment screenshot, however, might lack a name, address or issue date. Read the actual request first: an authentic document can still answer the wrong question. Preparing to register
Where the three lists differ
| Platform and scope here | Documents to look for first | Age and easily missed distinctions |
|---|---|---|
| Binance: Australian / New Zealand individual POA | Bank or credit-card statements; utility bills | Both countries are listed under three months, not the six-month rule for other regions. Payslips appear on the unacceptable list |
| OKX: Australian help list | Bank/neobank statements, addressed payslips, utility bills | These require issuance within three months; mobile bills are excluded. A lease has separate conditions: at least six months in total, signed/stamped by both parties, and at least two months remaining |
| Kraken Global: individuals asked for POA | Financial-institution, utility or payroll records | General rule: dated less than three months before submission, showing your name and address. P.O. boxes and mobile bills are excluded; regional additions may apply |
Sources: Binance address verification, OKX's Australian document list, and Kraken's requirements.
The practical conclusion is simple: a document accepted elsewhere is not automatically suitable here. If preparing for two platforms, write down each one's accepted types and timing, then see whether one document meets both. Do not assume both must accept the only document you currently have.
Check five fields before uploading
- Your legal name. Compare your verified account details with the document. Watch for missing middle names, an informal English nickname or a different name order.
- Current residence. Street number, building, unit, city, postcode and country should identify the same home. A mailing address may be different.
- Issue date. Use the date on the statement, not today's PDF download date or the creation time of a screenshot.
- Issuer. Preserve the institution's identifying information; a small crop of the name and address alone may omit context.
- Completeness and readability. Include the necessary pages and check that enlarged text is legible and essential fields are unobstructed.
This is CoinNav's pre-submission checking sequence. It can expose missing information, but does not authenticate a document or approve an application.

Electronic statements: look for an official export
An official PDF and a screenshot of your banking app are different files. Look in the issuer's statements or documents section. Open the downloaded file and confirm that it actually contains your name, residence and issue date. Do not relabel a transaction screenshot as a statement or add an address to a PDF yourself.
Binance recommends PDF and also describes conditions for readable colour screenshots or scans. OKX's address list specifies an original official PDF or complete, clear image; its verification troubleshooting page calls for original files without screenshots or editing. A submission format described by Binance is not permission to use it at OKX.
Kraken also says documents must not be password-protected. If your downloaded statement requires a password, ask the issuer for an official version suitable for submission. Do not compress text until it is unreadable. Use the actual upload screen for format and size limits, rather than assigning one platform's limit to every service.
Three examples of genuine documents that may need replacing
These are fictional situations to explain the checks, not actual review outcomes.
1. Downloaded today, issued months ago. Lin plans to submit on 6 September 2026, but the newly downloaded statement was issued on 15 May 2026. Downloading it does not reset its age. Under the three-month rules above, look for a newer, accepted document rather than editing the old PDF's date. For a document near the deadline, check the applicable rule; do not silently replace “three months” with a fixed 90 days.
2. A statement uses only a nickname. The verified account says Lin Chen, but the document's addressee is Alex. Even if Alex is that person's usual English name, the file does not itself establish the connection. Ask the issuer to correct its genuine records, or supply name-linking evidence as requested. Do not replace the name in the file yourself.
3. The document shows a previous home. You moved, but the latest statement still has your former address. Update the real address with the relevant institution and platform and obtain appropriate evidence. Uploading the old statement again does not resolve the current-residence question. Nor should you change your platform details back to a home where you no longer live simply to match the file.
After rejection, address the stated cause
| Message or problem | Distinguish first | Appropriate response |
|---|---|---|
| Unsupported document | Document type versus file format | Obtain an accepted official document; changing its extension does not change its type |
| Outdated document | Issue date, expiry or remaining lease term | Obtain a document meeting the time rule; do not edit its date |
| Name or address mismatch | Incorrect account data, outdated issuer data or an actual legal change | Correct the source of the discrepancy, then use the update or explanation process |
| Blurry, incomplete or unreadable file | Missing pages, passwords or export problems | Obtain a usable original; capture complete, clear images where permitted |
| Under review | Successfully submitted versus failed upload | Check status and notifications; retain the existing case reference instead of indiscriminate resubmission |
This is an editorial diagnostic table. OKX's failure guide specifically covers another person's document, unsupported types and image issues. Start with your actual notice rather than guessing from the word “failed.”
Where to correct verified information
- Binance: Start at Account → Identification. Its individual-verification guide describes Update Identity for changes such as name or identification. Address issues should follow the task in your verification page or official support. The account holder must remain the same person.
- OKX: Check Profile → Identity verification for available Edit, Update or Refresh entries. Its information-update guide distinguishes correcting the same person's name from replacing the holder. If no relevant entry appears, use official support rather than repeatedly selecting another region. This process guide does not establish Singapore account eligibility.
- Kraken: The account-information guide directs already-submitted verification details through the official Change account info form. For a move, choose Address and provide new-residence evidence. Use the process rather than changing the address printed on a statement.
When a review is pending, follow platform notifications. This guide promises no approval time and does not recommend opening duplicate accounts to restart verification.
Submit complete documents only to official channels
Check the document type, issue date, name, residence and whether the file opens. Then use your account's verification page or the submission route specified by official support. CoinNav's email, feedback form and third-party agents are not verification-upload channels.
If bills are in a flatmate's name, you use a joint account, or Chinese-language documents differ from your English account name, first ask the platform which supporting evidence it accepts. Do not assume a flatmate's bill, translation or family declaration is sufficient, and do not invent a residence to solve a documentation problem.
