Buying crypto with AUD in Australia: bank deposits and spot fees

Check AUD bank routes at OKX, Kraken and Binance, recalculate fees on 500 AUD of spot trades, and identify source differences and unconfirmed costs.

On this page

If you live in Australia and plan to buy BTC using Australian dollars in your own bank account, first check both AUD funding and BTC/AUD trading. An available bank-deposit method does not establish access for every account or product.

This review uses public information checked on 5 September 2026. It covers retail accounts, AUD bank deposits and unleveraged spot order books. We did not open accounts, deposit funds or execute trades. Card purchases, P2P and instant-buy quotes are outside this route.

What can be confirmed for each platform?

Platform AUD bank deposit Buying BTC directly with AUD
OKX A local Australian bank account in your own name; no platform deposit fee, with bank charges checked separately. Requirements The public market list returned BTC-AUD as live. Confirm the pair is available in your own account. Market list
Kraken Its requirements allow verified Australian accounts to use their own Australian bank via Osko / PayID. The public table lists a 5 AUD minimum and no platform deposit fee. Requirements · Deposit table The Australia-filtered market list returned BTC/AUD as online. That is not a personal permission or execution-price guarantee. Market list
Binance Current AUD bank-deposit availability was not confirmed in this review. It is not treated as a free, available route. We did not confirm the complete AUD bank → BTC/AUD route, so no subtotal is shown.

The indexed excerpt of Binance's AUD banking FAQ still mentioned suspended deposits; direct retrieval redirected to a regional page. We retain an unconfirmed result, rather than treating this as a restriction on all Binance services or using old PayID tutorials and community posts as proof of restoration.

OKX's deposit instructions also exclude services such as Wise and transfers from other exchanges. Obtain payment details from your own account before sending funds.

Recalculate the trading fee on 500 AUD

500 AUD here means executed trade notional, not a budget including every charge. The table expresses fees in AUD equivalent, assuming the whole amount fills as either maker or taker. It excludes account discounts, bank charges, spread, slippage and withdrawals.

Published schedule All maker fills All taker fills
OKX AU retail Regular, ordinary spot pairs 500 × 0.70% = 3.50 AUD equivalent 500 × 0.70% = 3.50 AUD equivalent
Kraken Pro Spot Crypto, published Tier 1 500 × 0.40% = 2.00 AUD equivalent 500 × 0.80% = 4.00 AUD equivalent

Sources: OKX AU notice, effective 22 April 2026, Kraken AU fee schedule and Kraken's July 2026 changes. The OKX row only illustrates the ordinary schedule when applicable; whether BTC/AUD is currently a zero-fee exception and your personal rate still need confirmation. Wholesale rates should not be assigned to retail users.

Adding the published 0 AUD platform deposit charge for these methods leaves the listed subtotal unchanged. These figures are not complete route costs and do not establish which platform delivers more BTC.

Resolve two source differences before relying on a quote

Kraken's website and public API differ. During this check, the BTC/AUD API's zero-volume row still returned 0.25% maker and 0.40% taker, versus 0.40% / 0.80% on the newer website and change notice. The example explicitly uses the newer website schedule. We have not resolved the discrepancy; confirm your account's rate rather than treating the lower API values as an available discount.

A fee equivalent is not its settlement currency. OKX's current Australian fee FAQ describes spot-buy fees deducted from the purchased asset. A separate quote-currency payment announcement says the feature may not apply to all customers. A 3.50 AUD equivalent therefore does not promise an additional 3.50 AUD debit. Kraken's fee-currency preference also needs checking against the actual fill record.

Why a 500 AUD deposit may not fund a 500 AUD trade

Bank charges or an additional fee reserve can reduce the amount available to trade. A fee deducted from purchased BTC reduces the net BTC received instead. Minimum order sizes, precision and available balance also matter.

This page uses no live BTC price or simulated execution, so it cannot calculate the actual BTC received. When comparing instant buying, conversion and order books, check whether the quote already includes a spread to avoid adding it twice. How to check full costs

Holding on-platform or withdrawing to your wallet

Holding on-platform omits the on-chain withdrawal step for this route; custody and price risks remain. A wallet transfer adds the selected asset/network fee, minimum, expected amount received and any account hold. A public deposit table showing no standard hold does not guarantee immediate withdrawal in every situation.

Use the final withdrawal confirmation for the applicable charge. An unavailable BTC network quote is not zero, and amounts in BTC, AUD and USD cannot simply be added. Kraken withdrawal fees · Complete the withdrawal self-check

Check these items before paying

  1. Confirm your account's local entity, verification, AUD funding method and matching-name requirements.
  2. Confirm unleveraged BTC/AUD spot trading and your actual rate. Use the fill-scenario guide to distinguish maker, taker and mixed fills.
  3. Before placing an order, compare estimated notional, fee assets and expected net amounts at the same time. After execution, reconcile the actual fill records. Check the withdrawal step separately if needed.
  4. If a necessary component remains unknown, retain a known-cost subtotal rather than labelling it a complete total.
