Understanding fees

OKX Convert vs spot: comparing quotes, fees and net crypto received

Separate the spread inside a conversion quote from spot fees, compare a hypothetical 500 USDT purchase and reconcile account rates and partial fills.

On this page

OKX Convert generally quotes an exchange before you confirm it. Spot trading submits an order for execution on an order book. Compare the net crypto received for the same outlay, alongside how much control you need over price and execution. No separate transaction fee does not mean a quote matches the spot book.

This guide uses OKX Singapore documentation checked on 6 September 2026. It covers quote-based buying/conversion and unleveraged spot where those services are available in the account. Markets, accounts and assets can have different access and fees. Every numerical example below is hypothetical; no trades were executed for this review.

Identify Buy/Sell, Convert and Spot first

Entry Main items to confirm Where to reconcile the result
Buy/Sell Cash or supported payment method, outlay and crypto received Purchase record: payment, net quantity and fees
Convert From/to assets, amount and final quote Conversion record: actual debit and receipt
Spot Pair, side, order type, price and quantity Individual fills: execution price, quantity and maker/taker fees

The first two use quotes; spot matches orders. Their ability to acquire the same asset does not make their pricing identical. An SGD cash deposit is also separate from a crypto-to-crypto conversion. OKX Buy/Sell and Convert FAQ

A quote can contain a spread; no separate fee does not mean no cost.

Spot: execute an order

A resting order may not fill. Check executed quantity and the fee asset.

Use the same budget, asset and time for both paths. The diagram explains a method, not a live price or cheapest-route promise.

Why can a zero-fee conversion deliver less?

Zero fee may mean no separate trading-fee line for that flow. The quote can still incorporate a spread. OKX's disclosure describes spread within buy/sell/conversion pricing, varying with the market, region and conditions. Do not subtract an already included cost a second time from the net quote. Buy/sell/convert spread disclosure

Distinguish spread, the difference between buying and selling prices, from slippage, a difference between expected and actual execution prices as an order encounters liquidity. A briefly fixed quote is not an indefinite right to an old price: review a new preview when it expires. Quoted buying versus spot

An order book has more than a fee percentage. There may not be enough quantity at the best price for your whole order. Market orders can fill at several prices; a limit controls price but may remain unfilled or fill only partly. OKX fee and execution rules

Compare net BTC from the same 500 USDT outlay

This is a fictional example, not a current OKX quote, account rate or statement of pair availability. Both paths spend exactly 500 USDT. Deposits, withdrawals, additional FX and quantity precision are excluded.

Item Hypothetical Convert quote Hypothetical spot execution
Total spent 500 USDT 500 USDT
Pricing assumption Final preview includes all conversion costs Entire order fills at 100,000 USDT/BTC
Separate fee None Assumed 0.20% deducted from purchased BTC
Quantity before fee No need to reconstruct it from a net quote 500 ÷ 100,000 = 0.005 BTC
Fee quantity Already reflected in the net quote 0.005 × 0.20% = 0.00001 BTC
Net received 0.00494 BTC 0.005 − 0.00001 = 0.00499 BTC

Spot delivers 0.00005 BTC more under these assumptions. But its result depends on the execution price. At an average fill price of 101,500 and the same assumed fee, net receipt becomes 500 ÷ 101,500 × 99.80% ≈ 0.00491626 BTC, below the conversion example. A smaller visible fee percentage alone cannot establish the better result.

Another comparison is USDT spent per net BTC received: 500 ÷ 0.00494 ≈ 101,214.57; 500 ÷ 0.00499 ≈ 100,200.40. These effective prices include the example's stated costs. They are not market quotes, and their difference should not all be described as a platform fee.

Keep four inputs consistent when comparing previews

Use the same spending asset, receiving asset and budget at closely matched times. SGD 500 in a cash-buying preview is not the same principal as USDT 500 on a spot book. Include the intervening FX path and its costs before comparing net receipt.

Record four items:

  1. Spending asset and total debit, including any separately charged payment cost.
  2. Receiving asset and whether the displayed quantity is before or after fees.
  3. Quote or order type: the new conversion preview, or the spot pair and account fee.
  4. Quote time and status: an expired screenshot and a current order book are not simultaneous alternatives.

For a partial spot fill, record the remaining cash separately from the crypto received. Unspent USDT is not a trading loss; an incomplete order is not proof that the full purchase achieved a lower price.

Find the spot rate that applies to your account

On the web, check Assets → My trading fees, then Fees in the chosen spot pair's order panel. After execution, use Order history → Details → Fee. Read the rate, fee asset and individual fill together, rather than copying a logged-out website number. OKX fee lookup

For Singapore, distinguish ordinary customers from Accredited Investors. The August 2026 notice limits its spot changes to Accredited Investors and retains separate schedules for SGD and selected stablecoin pairs. An OKX SG account therefore does not by itself identify one universal rate. August 2026 Singapore fee changes

The example's 0.20% is not your rate, and another market's published tier should not be substituted. A limit order that executes immediately can still be taker. For mixed fills, read the maker/taker guide.

A lower portfolio value is not enough to identify a fee

Confirm the order is completed, then check the actual assets debited and received. Portfolio value estimates your holdings at current prices; it is not the original order receipt. If the delivered quantity matches the confirmed order while its cash valuation changes, that movement alone does not establish another charge. OKX on orders and portfolio valuation

Reconcile spending asset/quantity → receiving asset/quantity → separately listed fees → order time/status. If the completed order really differs from its confirmed terms, provide those fields and the order ID to official support. Do not immediately reverse a trade merely to test the difference: buying and selling are independent executions.

What else matters when choosing an entry?

Priority Main check
Fewer order parameters and a complete quoted outcome Convert's net receipt, supported assets, minimum amount and quote validity
Specifying a buy or sell price Spot limit conditions, execution uncertainty and unfilled balance
Prompt execution An available current quote or spot liquidity; a large order may cross price levels
Moving the purchased asset to a wallet Add each path's actual network, withdrawal minimum and fee

No entry is cheapest for every asset, amount and market condition. Compare like-for-like previews and reconcile the actual order after execution. If you start with SGD cash, see PayNow funding steps. To connect funding, buying and withdrawal costs, read the full-cost guide.
