The key to understanding Kraken is separating instant purchases from Kraken Pro order-book trading. Funding, execution and withdrawal can each add costs, and some payments trigger withdrawal holds. This guide connects those steps so you can choose an interface and funding route.
Kraken offers a quoted buy, sell or conversion flow, while Kraken Pro offers order-book trading. First decide whether to accept an instant quote or choose an order price and execution method, then compare the relevant fees. A Pro maker rate is not the price of using the regular buy button.
Kraken Pro is a trading interface, not a requirement to obtain higher-limit verification. Kraken explicitly says a verified personal account does not need higher limits to use Pro web or mobile. Products such as margin have separate eligibility rules; access to the interface does not unlock every product.
Check the account, product and region for each table. Rates can differ between them. These estimates cover trading fees only. Funding, withdrawal, FX and spread are separate; unknown amounts are not treated as zero.
Kraken Pro spot · Tier 1
Published Tier 1 reference for direct Kraken Pro standard spot accounts (0.40% maker / 0.80% taker), not a personal account quote. Local service conditions still apply. CA/GB/DE/FR local pages and current terms support the reference; US global terms link the same fee page. Dedicated pairs, instant buys, accounts opened through partners and other tiers differ. Tier qualification is regional; futures volume is not universally eligible. The official API and website show different rates. Check your account before trading.
Public Kraken Pro standard-spot Tier 2 reference, subject to its volume or other qualification criteria. Criteria vary by region and available products; futures volume does not universally qualify. Check the tier in your account.
For applicable stablecoin-base pairs, pegged tokens and FX. A BTC/stablecoin pair with a stablecoin only on the quote side uses the ordinary spot schedule.
Instant-buy pricing may include a spread alongside a displayed trading fee and payment-method costs. Waiving one fee does not make the purchase costless. For comparison, divide the fiat actually paid by the crypto actually received to calculate the effective purchase price, then compare alternative routes at the same time.

Compare the same asset and input amount at the same time. A trading-fee waiver does not remove spread or payment costs. Neither route is assumed to be cheaper.
Kraken Pro fees depend on market category, account tier and maker/taker execution. The July 2026 cross-platform tier change lets eligible assets on platform influence the tier, rather than volume alone. As an illustration, an applicable 0.40% rate on a $1,000 execution gives a $4 execution fee. This is not a quote for every account and excludes funding and withdrawal.
The pair itself matters. A stablecoin as the base asset can fall under a different schedule from a crypto pair merely quoted in a stablecoin. For example, BTC/DAI does not use the stablecoin schedule just because DAI appears in its name. Special-pair pricing cannot be generalized to the whole platform.
How should I fund my account?Check available channels, currencies and account fees.
Verified Australian accounts can deposit AUD by Osko/PayID from a same-name Australian bank. The published minimum is AUD 5 with no platform deposit fee. AUD card or Apple/Google Pay processing is 3.75% + AUD 0.25; recheck the route before paying.
What should I check before withdrawing?Confirm the network, address and fee before sending.
Find the asset and network in Cryptocurrency withdrawal fees and minimums, then check current charges and minimums on the confirmation page. Kraken Pro trading fees, instant-purchase spreads and withdrawals are separate charges to include in your comparison.
Kraken requires users to be at least 18 and resident in a supported area. Its regional information distinguishes local entities and product restrictions, and funding providers may impose additional limits. Enter your genuine identity and residential address. If proof of address is requested, it must show your name and address and be less than three months old when submitted.
Bank funding lets you examine routes in your own currency. Kraken lists EUR SEPA, GBP FPS and AUD PayID/Osko with method-specific fees, minimums and processing times. These are not available to every regional account. Start with the currency and provider shown in your account and follow their payment details and reference requirements.
If your goal is to buy crypto and send it to your wallet, funding speed is only part of the decision. Certain card and digital-wallet purchases trigger a 72-hour withdrawal hold, while ACH Plaid funding or purchases can involve seven days. Funds available to trade are not necessarily available to withdraw immediately.
Our comparison method fixes three steps: fund in your currency, trade the same asset, and withdraw over the same network. Assess Kraken bank routes against your local account conditions, and Pro against your willingness to manage orders. Finally check the asset-specific withdrawal minimum and fee, especially for small transfers.
Do I need higher-limit verification for Kraken Pro?
Not solely to use the Pro interface. Kraken separates the interface from verification limits. You still need the required verification and regional eligibility for the product you use.
No. Kraken limits the Kraken+ trading-fee benefit to its Buy, Sell and Convert features and excludes Kraken Pro spot and other Pro trades. The benefit also does not make instant-buy spreads or payment costs disappear.
Why can I trade deposited funds but not withdraw them?
The payment method may have triggered a withdrawal hold even though trading is available. Check the held amount and end time in your account. ACH Plaid and card routes have different rules; converting the funds to another asset does not automatically remove the hold.
Can I verify my address with an old or mobile phone bill?
Kraken currently requires proof of address to be less than three months old and excludes mobile phone bills. Check supported documents such as a recent bank statement with clear name, address and date. Whether you must submit it depends on the verification flow.
